Sound Detective: Stop, Listen, Describe
A quick ‘pause and listen’ game where the adult helps your child tune into environmental sounds and describe them using simple contrasts (long/short, high/low), building listening attention and shared talk.
What you'll need
Essentials
- 2 safe household sound-makers (e.g., a spoon and cup for tapping; keys in an adult hand; a sealed container with dry pasta to shake)
- a window/doorway or a quiet spot to pause and listen
Nice to have
- phone timer (to make a short ‘listening pause’ feel clear)
- paper and a crayon (to draw a simple sound ‘map’ after)
Movement level: low
What you'll do
The 4-step guide, with what to look for at each step, is for signed-in parents.
