Pattern Picture Hunt

Guide you to help your child collect pictures and everyday items that show shapes and patterns from different cultures (for example, Arabic-style geometric designs), then sort and copy a simple pattern using talk, pointing, and play.

What you'll need

Essentials

  • a few picture sources (picture books, magazines, flyers, or product packaging)
  • 3–6 patterned household items (e.g., a scarf, tea towel, cushion cover, gift bag, wrapping paper)
  • a tray, basket, or small box to collect pictures/items

Nice to have

  • phone/camera to take quick photos instead of cutting out pictures
  • paper and crayons/markers to copy a pattern
  • tape or a glue stick (to make a mini 'pattern wall')

Movement level: low

What you'll do

The 4-step guide, with what to look for at each step, is for signed-in parents.
